Rear Admiral Saheed Adeshina Akinwade

Rear Admiral Saheed Adeshina Akinwande was born on 10 Apr 71 in Lagos Island, Lagos State. His parents are Mr Lateef Ajani Akinwande and Late Mrs Olabisi Akinwande from Agege, Lagos State. He attended Ikeja Primary School, Ikeja, Lagos State from 1975 to 1981. Thereafter, he attended Ikeja High School, Ikeja, Lagos State from 1982 to 1987. He commenced his military career on 10 Sep 88, as a member of 40 Regular Course NDA. He was commissioned in the rank of Sub Lieutenant on 10 Sep 93.

The senior officer has attended several courses since commission. These include the Midshipman Training, Sub Technical Course, Junior Course and Senior Courses at Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Jaji. Others are; Young Officers Course at NNIS, Apapa. He is a specialist Above Water Warfare Officer from NNS QUORRA Apapa, Lagos as well as a Fellow of National Defence College, Abuja.

The admiral has served onboard the following ships and establishments; NNS ARADU, NNS ENYIMIRI, NNS EKUN, NNS NWAMBA, FOB IBAKA, NOD, NNS PATHFINDER and HQWNC. He was in ECOMOG and also took part in Ops HARMONY and Ops FLUSH-OUT II. He has been decorated with FSS MSS and DSS.

Rear Admiral Saheed Adeshina Akinwande has held several appointments in command, staff and instruction onboard NN ships and establishments including tri Service institution. Among these are: BIO-FOB IBAKA, BIO-NOD, BIO-NNS PATHFINDER, CINTO WEST, DS-AFCSC, SO1 Admin HQ AFCSC. He was the CI-DMW AFCSC, CO CND, SO1 Strategy NHQ and Director Strategy and Policy/DS NWCN as well as the Director DMW AFCSC. He was appointed PSO to the current CNS. The Admiral was a member of the pioneer staff of the NWCN and currently the Comdt NWCN. He is married and the union is blessed with children. He loves travelling, reading and meeting people.
