General Officer Commanding 6 Division Nigerian Army Delivers Lecture to the Participants of Naval Warfare Course 9 of Naval War College Nigeria.

On Thursday 5 June 2025, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 6 Division Nigerian Army (NA) who also doubles as the Land Component Commander (LCC) Joint Task Force (JTF) South South (SS) Operation DELTA SAFE (OPDS), Major General EE Emekah delivered a lecture titled ‘Contributions of the Land Component to JTF (SS) OPDS’, to participants of Naval Warfare Course (NWC) 9 of Naval War College Nigeria (NWCN). The lecture was held at the College Central Lecture Hall. The purpose of the lecture was to acquaint participants of NWC 9 with the roles and contributions of land component in joint operations with particular focus on JTF (SS) OPDS.

During the lecture, Major General EE Emekah highlighted the organization, roles and responsibilities of the Land Component of JTF (SS) OPDS. He thereafter recounted some contributions of the LC of JTF (SS) OPDS which include stakeholder engagements and civil-military relations, conduct of combat operations, conduct of intelligence gathering/surveillance activities and improved inter-agency collaboration. Through the contributions of the LC of JTF (SS) OPDS in combat operations, intelligence gathering, stakeholder engagements and inter-agency collaboration, criminal activities such as oil theft, illegal bunkering and pipeline vandalism have significantly been curbed within the area of responsibility of the JTF. These efforts have not only shored up oil production but also fostered stability in the region. The very senior officer concluded his lecture by stating that a holistic approach that combines kinetic and non-kinetic operations, inter-agency collaboration, and community engagement will be crucial in boosting oil production and enhancing sustainable peace and stability in the Niger Delta Region.

In his remarks, the Commandant NWCN, Rear Admiral AO Olodude appreciated the GOC 6 Division NA for the insightful lecture and for sparing time from his very busy schedule to deliver the all-important lecture. He thereafter commended the efforts of troops of the LC JTF OPDS for ensuring sanity and stability in the Niger Delta Region. The Commandant concluded his remarks by encouraging participants to note the lessons drawn from the lecture for future applications as operational-level commanders.
