NAVAL SPOKESPERSON DELIVERS LECTURE TO PARTICIPANTS OF NAVAL WARFARE COURSE 10 OF THE NAVAL WAR COLLEGE NIGERIA

On Tuesday, 10 February 2026, the Director of Naval Information, Captain (Nigerian Navy) Abiodun Abidemi Folorunsho delivered a lecture titled ‘The Media in Maritime Security Operations’ to the participants of Naval Warfare Course (NWC) 10 of the Naval War College Nigeria (NWCN). The lecture held at the College Auditorium was part of the Interagency Cooperation in Maritime Security Operation Module for the Course. The purpose of the lecture was to acquaint the participants of NWC 10 with the conduct of media operations in a contemporary maritime environment.

Captain (Nigerian Navy) Abiodun Folorunsho highlighted the principles of media operations in a contemporary maritime environment, which include force protection/operations security, focus on the desired effect, countering disinformation and openness. Others include credibility, timeliness, preparation and truth. He noted that these principles ensure accuracy, independence, and efficiency in a rapidly evolving, often digital-first environment. While openness is vital, the senior officer stressed that operational security must always remain paramount. He thereafter highlighted the capability requirements for media operations, which include professional public affairs units, embedded media teams and training of commanders. Others include crisis communication protocols, social media monitoring and rapid response mechanisms. He noted that these requirements remain germane to creating, managing, and distributing content effectively across digital and traditional platforms.

The Commandant NWCN, Rear Admiral Mohammed Muye commended the guest lecturer for delivering an enlightening and thought-provoking lecture. He encouraged the participants of NWC 10 to note the lessons drawn from the lecture for future applications as operational level commanders.
